The Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS) has announced that the University of Wisconsin-River Falls has qualified for Bronze Tier within the CAS University Recognition Program. This program recognizes academic institutions with a demonstrated commitment to preparing property and casualty actuaries through their educational offerings. The CAS is the world\u2019s only actuarial organization focused exclusively on property and casualty risks, serving over 10,000 members worldwide. CAS members work for insurance companies, educational institutions, state insurance departments, federal government agencies, independent consulting firms, and many other organizations that require management of risk.<\/p>\n

The CAS offers three levels of recognition for universities, Bronze, Silver and Gold. Benefits offered through this program are designed to address the specific needs of universities depending on their established tier.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are pleased to honor universities through the CAS University Recognition Program,\u201d said Victor Carter-Bey, CEO of the Casualty Actuarial Society.\u00a0\u201cRecognition at the Bronze Tier demonstrates that University of Wisconsin-River Falls is committed to exposing their students to the property and casualty actuarial career path through their participation in the CAS University Liaison, Student Central, Student Ambassador, and Academic Central Programs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The CAS University Recognition Program builds upon the former CAS University Award Program introduced in 2016. The university will receive a set of benefits that accompany this honor, including being featured on the official CAS University Recognition list featured on the\u00a0CAS website<\/a>, and accessible through the\u00a0CAS Student Central<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0Be An Actuary<\/a>\u00a0websites.<\/p>\n

In addition to being recognized by the CAS, UWRF has also been recognized by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) on their\u00a0Universities & Colleges with Actuarial Programs \u2013 Introductory Curriculum list<\/a>. After having reviewed course syllabi, the SOA has approved UWRF for courses in economics, accounting and finance and mathematical statistics, and for courses preparing students for SOA exams in probability and financial mathematics.<\/p>\n

UWRF has been included on the\u00a0SOA Explorer<\/a>\u00a0map and has a\u00a0dedicated profile page<\/a>\u00a0on the SOA website that includes key faculty contact information, course coverage for SOA exams, approved courses and degrees offered.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese recognitions from the Casualty Actuarial Society and the Society of Actuaries affirm the strength and growing reputation of our actuarial science program at UWRF,\u201d said Michael Loper, an assistant professor of mathematics. \u201cFor students, this means access to a curriculum that meets national standards and prepares them for success in one of the most respected and rewarding analytical careers. Beyond the classroom, our active Actuarial Club connects students with industry professionals, peer support and valuable career resources. Actuarial science offers the opportunity to apply mathematics and problem-solving skills to real-world challenges in risk management, finance, consulting and insurance. It\u2019s an exciting, impactful field with strong career prospects and we\u2019re proud to help our students take those first steps toward it.\u201d<\/p>\n
